Park Lane Archives

From the vaults of the legendary Glasgow studio - exclusive, previously unreleased rarities from TEXAS, DEL AMITRI, PRIMAL SCREAM, BLUEBELLS, DEACON BLUE, ALTERED IMAGES, GUN, HIPSWAY, LOVE & MONEY and many more!

PARK LANE STUDIO in Glasgow was host to many young bands from 1980 onwards, often making their first recordings and still seeking a record deal.  Some became very successful, and a vibrant scene soon developed centred around the studio.

Now the studio archives have been prised open, and a treasure trove of fascinating and unreleased tapes discovered!

Park Lane StudioThis album offers a unique and broad insight into the whole history of the important Glasgow scene, the studio and the many interwoven musicians and bands that recorded there.

The fertile, creative atmosphere is demonstrated through the associations between artists and the musicians who would turn out to play for various bands.  Notably, Johnny McElhone was songwriter and bassist for Altered Images, then Hipsway, then Texas – achieving the rare feat of having 3 top 20 singles in 3 different bands.

Paul Quinn was vocalist in Bourgie Bourgie; he and others were in The Jazzateers, then some became Nectarine no 9Mark Rankin, the singer from Gun, is a cousin of Sharleen Spiteri … the list of connections goes on and on.

The unreleased tracks reveal hidden gems and work-in-progress.  The Bluebells no. 1 hit ‘Young At Heart’ is heard before the violinist added his part - that later famously gained him a share of the songwriting when he took the band to court.  You can be the judge.

Many, such as Texas, are heard in their more natural raunchy sound, before the edges were smoothed.  Some, such as Del Amitri and AC Acoustics, have unheard songs discovered; others are here with cult tracks that deserve wider recognition.

An intriguing collection of a hitherto little documented ‘Scotrock’ scene, ‘PARK LANE ARCHIVES’ is an 80-min. album featuring 22 tracks, with a 16-page booklet with photos and biogs of all bands and notes by those who were there.
